Unions, Smunions--What, Me Worry?

For all the celestial disturbance over the proposed Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA), you wouldn't know it from a poll I just discovered at the Manpower Employment Blawg.

The blog posted this question:

What is the #1 most frightening employment law issue you’re facing right now?

And got these results:

1. Terminations (26%)
2. Discrimination (13%)
3. Medical issues (10%)
4. Harassment (9%)
5. (Tie) Wage and hour (8%) and Benefits (8%)
7. Hiring (7%)
8. RIFs (6%)
9. Unions (3%)

So, unions are at the bottom of the list, are they? That being the case (in a very unscientific survey), why all the hubbub over EFCA?

I can't stand the unions. I'd be curious as to how many of the top issues have unions involved. Personally I find unions are the backbone of the problems we have today. They are the reason why we have labor law issues. They promote the very kind of behavior that causes all the problems that are listed above them in that list.

There are people out there that believe if you understand the unions then you can combat the lawsuits and complaints that come from the ill-legit lazy people that work for them. Then again I guess that goes for any job union or not. Keeping simple documentation of training, labor law and osha notification posters can take care of a lot of issues. Personnel Concepts does a great job reminding(scaring) me about these issues of fines and lawsuits. Some don't like it but it just lights a fire under my butt to do something. At this time I have yet find someone with similar robust tools to protect your business.
